Facing History – Contemporary Portraiture exhibition – V&A, 5/3/16

Small but diverse collection of portraiture.

What stood out and why:-

Ellen Heck – Forty Fridas – lovely concept – makes me question how I can come up with dynamic ideas to pursue in my own work.  Delicacy and negative space work really well alongside the colour choice. Really interesting as a collection of work as well as individually. In fact, more powerful as a group.

Grayson Perry – Mr and Mrs Perry – use of materials to convey a certain quality or approach (e.g. this naive approach using lino to imitate pre-photograph era portraits). Reminder that my choice of method should be a rigorous process

Gemma Anderson – Elsy and Tim – another rigorous conceptual based collection of art – investigation through the process – phenomenology pops into my head again.
